Five girls arrested for attempting to burn school lab in Lari

Police say the Precious Blood Kagwe students sneaked into the facility and set it on fire on Monday

Five students from Precious Blood Kagwe Girls High School in Lari constituency who attempted to set the school's laboratory ablaze have been arrested.

Police say they attempted to set the laboratory on fire on Monday evening.

They skipped the evening preps and sneaked into the laboratory and tried to set it on fire using papers.

Lari subcounty police commander Stephen Kirui said the teacher on duty and the school watchmen noticed smoke and went to check what was happening.

The police boss said the fire was however quickly put out before it spread and caused damages. 

Kirui said the school administration called the police who arrested the girls.

The five include two Form 4s, a Form 3, a Form 2 and a Form 1 .

"We are investigating the matter so that we can establish the motive these students had," Kirui said.

He added that the case was being investigated by the DCI officers attached to Lari.

The police boss added that the school is being manned by the police as they wait for the Board of Management to discuss the matter, including others related to the schools security.
