ODM leader Raila Odinga on Friday vowed to fight corruption, saying that he knows where loopholes are.
Speaking in Makueni during another of the Azimio la Umoja consultative forums, Raila said that Kenya loses a lot of money to unscrupulous people.
"I know where there are loopholes. I have been Prime Minister of Kenya and I will seal all of them," he said.
The former PM said that a big percentage of the Kenyan population is the youth, and this can be a blessing or a curse, depending on how they are used.
"If you don't empower them they become drunkards, drug addicts and criminals. They basically become a drug on society, but if they are properly empowered, given proper educated and skills they become a source for wealth creation in our nation, a great resource for our country."
He added that Kenya is working towards its third liberation – economic liberation, and this is where the youth have a huge role to play.
He insisted that young people need to be empowered with skills and given money to start and grow SMEs, adding that this is something he intends to do.
"Kenyans don't want cooked fish, they want to know how to fish so that they can walk with pride as a proud people," Raila said.
He said that all this is achievable because other countries have done it before and what Kenya needs is to be able to do it the right way.
The ODM leader reiterated the need for a social safety net programme to help poor families without any source of income get cash transfers of Sh6,000 monthly.
"When I say that they say its small talk. It is a promise and where there is a will there is a way."
During the Azimio la Umoja meeting with opinion leaders from Lower Eastern, Ukambani governors, Charity Ngilu (Kutui), Alfred Mutua (Machakos) and Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) vowed to rally their counties to back the ODM leaders quest for the country's top seat.
Royal Media Services chairman S.K Macharia was also present.
Other leaders present included Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui, Secretary general Edwin Sifuna, MPs Junet Mohamed (Suna East) Maina Kamanda (Nominated), and Raphael Wanjala (Budalangi) among others.
Raila launched the Azimio la Umoja unity call on August 17, 2021, in Nakuru and has since been going around the country meeting different groups of people as he popularises it.
