A police officer in-charge of tourist facilities in Lamu has told court that Jaha House in Shela did not report any incident relating to Tecra Muigai's death to the police.

Speaking during the inquest on Thursday, Evans Mwandadu said even though the apartment boss knew of the incident where Tecra is said to have fallen on the staircase, they did nothing about it.

Mwandadu said the hotel boss had asked a waiter Geoffrey Maliola to clean up the blood that had been on the staircase where Tecra’s boyfriend Omar Lali said she found her.

Lali told the officer that he didn’t report the incident at the police station because he had called an officer from the station but she didn’t pick up.

He said they were aware of the incident but had not reported it to the police station.

The officer said the management hadn’t filled in any visitors form which is a requirement for a tourist guest house.

Mwandadu claims to have been called by DCIO Amina to her office who informed her that there was a murder suspect in the cells in a case which she wanted him to take up on May 2020.

The police boss said he interrogated Omar Lali who said they had taken smirnoff vodka, white wine and miraa.

An officer had collected the two smirnoff vodka, one white wine bottle and fanta bottle.

“I was not shown any miraa or leftovers if there were any,” the cop said.

Lali said he slept off at one point and was only woken up by a loud bang at around 5.30am. He called on Tecra but she didn’t respond.

He then went on to check and found her lying at the junction of the first and second staircase. She was bleeding from the left ear.

He tried to resuscitate her in vain. He called his brothers for help and took Tecra to Shela dispensary but were referred to King Fahad hospital.

"I knew Lali very well before the incident. We have each other’s contact and he gives me information involving my work as the in-charge of tourism.

"We used to drink sodas together even before and we still talk up to date. We are in good terms," Mwandadu said.

The officer told Lali’s lawyer in cross examination after a slight stiff that ‘he is his best friend and that they drink tea together in Lamu, as he does with Lali.

The hearing was adjourned to February 23, 2022.
