When Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua first introduced his woman, Lilian Ng'ang'a to the world, 'it was a lover and his lass,' the Shakespearean way.

In their hey day, the love between Mutua and coy-looking Lilian 'was crowned with the prime'.

Lilian constantly wore an alluring smile, clinging tightly to her dear man, whose eyes spoke a language only the two could understand.

Behind the smiles, however, various torments of life worked in shifts so that one was always on duty, and the toll inflicted was felt by them both, each pushing back the pain, but with a smile.

Distressed Lilian on Thursday expressed how her former husband was frustrating her efforts to move on.

She said Mutua was taking away her property and threatening her and people close to her, and has promised to crush her completely.

In company of her lawyer Philip Murgor, Lilian told the press on Thursday that Mutua has been harassing her and that he has refused to move on after a publicised breakup on August 16.

She alleged that the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader became angry after she requested him for a mature and amicable separation in a meeting with their mutual friends.

“Mr Mutua angrily termed me as his enemy number one, and threatened to crush me to ashes. He promised to take away everything I have, and own," she said.

"Indeed, this has already started as he has demanded that I refund any money he has ever given to me or made available for my use."

With modest selection of words, Mutua took to social media to explain that his dear lover did not care for the money and good things in life he was always chasing.

He said she was empty while he spent all his time looking to give his wife a good life.

It wasn't long before the modesty was flipped, followed by public bitterness that has now spilled online.

Lilian declined to term her relationship with Mutua a partnership or even being a girlfriend. Not a wife, certainly.

After breaking up with Mutua, Lilian announced she had found solace in rapper Julius Owino alias Juliani.

Social media went awash with public displays of affection of the two lovers. With every post, Mutua won legions of admirers, especially among women.

However, the separation between Mutua and Lilian has taken an ugly turn.

The former Machakos first lady now terms the county chief as a threat to people close to her, whom he has threatened to execute with the assistance of willing people

“He stated that he had offers from people to kill persons close to me, and threatened that he might indeed take up the offers to teach some of them a lesson,” she said.

Lilian alleged that Mutua claimed to be an important person in this country, who can get away with anything.

“He added that his social media machinery is ready and waiting to 'finish' me and my friends completely.”

Mutua, she said, has already actualised some of his threats by forcefully repossessing a motor vehicle that she owned and selling it to a third party.

He also transferred her 1800 shares in the Ndash Enterprises Ltd (a hotel company) to his sister Ann Mbandi Mutua.

She said the county boss managed to transfer the shares after forging her signature.

“The two documents, which bear a stamp dated 12th and 13th August 2021, bear what resembles my signature, but not in original form," she said.

"[It is] clear the signatures have been electronically superimposed to provide the impression to the Registrar of Companies that the transaction is genuine, while in effect, the documents are clear forgeries.”

Lilian alleged that Mutua considers her a political threat, accusing her of working with his political enemies, namely Kalonzo Musyoka and Kivutha Kibwana, to bring him down politically.

Since announcing their separation, Mutua has had several media interviews, where he has claimed to be friends with his ex-partner.

During Mutua’s birthday party at Ole Sereni Hotel on August 22, the two were seen chatting and walking side by side.

Lilian said Mutua’s constant claims that they are friends and the separation was amicable are false. She said  these are "Mutua’s usual theatrics and lies".

She said Mutua was finding it hard to move on yet they were not married, but only long-term partners.

The former first lady said Mutua’s actions constitute psychological and economic gender-based violence.

“Mr Mutua is now out to destroy me both psychologically and economically and must be stopped by the government.”

Juliani also said that he received threats from anonymous people displeased with their relationship.

Mutua and his estranged wife Josephine Thitu Maundu in 2014 had a dispute over custody of their three children residing in Australia.

He wanted the court to direct his wife to return their three children to the country.

In his petition, Mutua said he and Thitu were still husband and wife but on November 5, she secretly flew the children from the country to an unknown destination in Australia.

Through his lawyer Mugambi Laichena, he wanted the court to issue an order directing the Kenyan ambassador to Australia to assist in bringing back the three children and ensure that peace prevailed during the process.

He also wanted the court to restrain Thitu’s relatives, friends, tenants and employees from entering, accessing or interfering with his matrimonial properties, pending hearing and determination of the suit.

Some of the properties mentioned in court were in Westlands in Nairobi, Mavoko and Matathani homes in Machakos county.
