ODM leader Raila Odinga has said Africa needs to boost trade within the continent.

In his remarks at the Dubai 2020 Expo after visiting Kenya’s pavilion, Raila said the expo is an important international event that takes place every five years.

“It is an opportunity to showcase what Kenya has to offer to the rest of the world. As they say, if you don’t tell your story nobody will tell it for you,” Raila said.

While attending the expo as African Union’s High Representative on infrastructure development, he said currently trade within African countries stands at about 15 per cent, and there is need to upscale it to 30 per cent, then 50 per cent gradually.

“One of the inhibiting factors has been the poor infrastructure in the continent and we have to ensure that the infrastructure in the continent is improved so that we can increase trade among African countries.”

Raila added that Kenya measures  well with what he saw from other countries by showing tourism potential of the country and different cultures, and unity in diversity.

The world expo is taking place in Dubai from October 1 to March 31, 2022, and has attracted 92 countries.

Each participating country has been allocated a national day to promote its culture, trade, investment, and tourism opportunity to the world. Kenya’s national day will be held on February 16, 2022.
