A section of leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto from Mt Kenya have accused the government of weaponising the criminal justice system to drive 2022 succession politics.

They said the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and Directorate of Criminal Investigations had been turned into ODM leader Raila Odinga's campaign machinery.

They urged those managing the criminal justice system not to allow political brokers in the government to taint the reputation of the country's independent institutions.

They were MPs Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), Irungu Kang'ata (Murang’a), Kimani Ichung’wah (Kikuyu), Alice Wahome (Kandara), Jayne Kihara (Naivasha), Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira) and Faith Gitau (Nyandarua)

“You [EACC and DCI) are losing credibility, very fast, because you have accepted to be used to settle political scores,” Nyoro said.

They spoke on Friday during a consultative meeting with grassroots leaders from Kangema and Mathioya constituencies in Murang'a county held at Ruto's residence in Karen.

The Kiharu MP said threats and intimidation from EACC and DCI will not coerce them into abandoning their cause of economically empowering millions of underprivileged Kenyans.

Kang'ata said EACC was facilitating corruption in the country by protecting political figures supporting Raila.

“EACC is actively campaigning for Odinga by targeting those who support his opponents. Why are they only targeting governors and MPs from Mt Kenya who are pro-Dr Ruto?”

Wahome urged President Uhuru Kenyatta not to allow mischievous civil servants to taint his legacy by exercising outright abuse of power.

She said those misusing the criminal justice system will be held accountable for their actions.

The MPs said Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru was being targeted by the EACC for her decision to join the Hustler movement.

They asked Waiguru not to be intimidated.

Ruto asked politicians to read the political mood of the country that was moving away from tribe and hate to people-centered issues.

He said that Kenyans are keen on leaders' agendas that will transform their lives.

"This election will be about the economy. Kenyans are telling us to present them with an agenda, they are ready to listen,” Ruto said.

The DP lauded the people of Mt Kenya for leading in rescinding tribal and regional politics in the country.

He asked leaders to embrace national political parties that will help champion a national agenda.
