Police are investigating the killing of a woman whose body was found stashed in a sack and dumped in a pit latrine in Kamulu area, Ruai, Nairobi.

The body had apparently been chopped into parts and stashed into the sack and dumped into the latrine.

Residents said a foul smell from the latrine forced them to seek the help of a caretaker and later police who discovered the decomposing body.

The remains were moved to the mortuary as police investigate the identity of the woman and motive of the killing.

Police want those whose kin are missing to visit Kamulu police station for identification.

Nairobi police boss Augustine Nthumbi said they will conduct an autopsy on the body to identify her.

Elsewhere, a suspected thug was Tuesday night shot dead after he and four others raided an estate near Mlango Kubwa area, Mathare and started to rob residents.

The gang had also tied the guard on duty and confiscated his mobile phone before continuing with their mission.

Police were informed and went there prompting a chase which left one dead. The other gang members managed to escape.

Police say cases of armed robberies have been on the rise since the lifting of the Covid-19 pandemic curfew last week.

Meanwhile, two suspects believed to have been part of a gang that attacked and stabbed a policewoman in Ngomongo area, Kasarani in Nairobi have been lynched by a mob.

The two were lynched by a mob Monday night near the same site where the police officer was stabbed and robbed her valuables last week as she walked to her residence.

Police say a gang had attacked a pedestrian who raised alarm alerting  a mob who chased and killed the two.

The remains of the two suspects who are said to have confessed to the crime as they were being beaten, were taken to the mortuary.

Police warned residents against lynching and want suspects to be surrendered to authorities for processing.
