Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko and his younger sister, Kajiado East MP Peris Tobiko, have parted ways as far as 2022 succession politics is concerned.

The MP has made a U-turn, abandoning ODM leader Raila Odinga and by extension the handshake camp and rejoining Deputy President William Ruto.

CS Tobiko does not see eye to eye with the DP and is part of the leading luminaries in Maasailand who have vowed to ensure Raila succeeds President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Three weeks ago, Raila hosted leaders from the Maa community in Kajiado county where the CS said he would rally the region to support the ODM boss in next year's election.

Last year, the CS sparked a political storm when he said the DP was just a mere clerk of the President. He said that unlike other aspirants who have contributed to the community's land problems, Raila has sacrificed his political career for the community during the coalition government when he stood firm for the reclamation of Mau forest.

“You have sacrificed your political future for the Maa nation, you have earned our trust, you have earned our confidence,” he said.

“Please, ensure Maa nation sits at the negotiating table; we don't want to be part of the menu."

The CS has teamed up with Kajiado Governor Joseph Lenku to fight off United Democratic Alliance’s insurgence in the county after nearly all the elected MPs, MCAs and several aspirants showed interest in the party.

But the MP has said her decision to warm back to the DP “is because the hustler movement is strong in Kajiado”.

The University of Nairobi political science graduate, who in 2013 became the first female Maasai to be elected MP for a single constituency, said she sees no future in Jubilee after 2022.

“I am moving to where my followers have faith, I do not decide alone on matters of this magnitude,” she told the Star.

She has also declared her interest in the gubernatorial race and says she wants to make another history by becoming the first woman Maasai governor in 2022.

She is expected to face off against her Kajiado South counterpart Katoo ole Metito for the UDA ticket. Metito has served the people of Kajiado South for 20 years.

Tobiko joins a growing list of politicians who have rejoined the Ruto camp citing. In June, Ruto received Kiambu Woman Representative Gathoni Wamuchomba, Samuel Gachobe (Subukia), Gabriel Kago (Githunguri) and David Gikaria (Nakuru Town East).
