President Uhuru Kenyatta has nominated Alfred Musimba and Monica Wanjiru as new EACC commissioners to replace Dabar Maalim and Rose Macharia who resigned on September 1.

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi communicated the nominations during the plenary sitting on Wednesday afternoon.

He said the President delivered the message to the House after receiving a report of the Public Service Commission on the recruitment of the replacements.

“In this regard, His Excellency the President now seeks the approval of the nominees by this House,” Muturi said.

The two would be subjected to approval hearings by the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee with the President calling on the August House to consider the nominees as a matter of priority.

Muturi cited the importance of EACC's mandate in ensuring integrity in the public sector.

“To this end, the committee should expeditiously notify the nominees and the general public of the time and place for holding the approval hearings,” he said, asking the House to consider the matter within the statutory timelines.

Abdi and Macharia quit the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission five months to the expiry of their term in December.

The resignation of the duo was to stagger the exit of commissioners to avoid plunging the agency into a constitutional crisis that cost its anti-graft efforts two years ago.

Currently there are two commissioners Sophia Lepuchirit and Mwaniki Gachoka as well as chairman Eliud Wabukala.
