A man accused of impersonating a KDF officer and defrauding a woman of Sh350,000 in a fake KDF job has denied the charges at a Kibera court.

Vincent Mutonyi is accused of obtaining the money jointly with two others from Siprine Owuor on January 2, 2019.

The court heard that the three falsely pretended that they were in a position to secure a job for Owuor’s son.

Mutonyi was also accused of presenting himself as a public service officer employed by the KDF, a fact he knew to be false.

He however denied both the charges before Kibera senior principal magistrate Derrick Kuto who released him on Sh100,000 bond.

The two others - Jemima Musyoka and Melisa Nasiche - were earlier charged at the same court.

According to the police, Musyoka told Owuor that she knows a senior officer at the Embakasi Garrison who has helped many youths to get recruited into KDF including her son.

Nasiche managed to convince Owuor to get the stated amount of money requested by the alleged senior officer Mutonyi to facilitate medical tests and training kits so that he gets the recruitment letter.

The court heard that Musyoka and Nasiche directed Owuor to go to a hotel in Nairobi west where they were to meet with Mutonyi to examine her son’s teeth and health.

The police report indicated that later that day, they all met and Mutonyi’s accomplices introduced themselves.

Owuor was told to hand over the money which was in an envelope for them to count and thereafter, Mutonyi examined her son and noted that his teeth and body were fit for the Military.

Owuor was told to collect the admission letter the following day, which never happened.

The case will proceed on October 27, 2021.
