Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o has mourned KeNHA engineer Phelix Osongo.

Until his death, Osongo was the deputy director (Trunk Network Coordination) at the Kenya National Highways Authority.

Nyong’o said it was with great shock and disbelief that he learnt about the untimely death of Osongo, who died last week in Nairobi.

He described Osongo as a dedicated professional and a friend to the people of Kisumu during and after his tenure as the regional director -Nyanza from September 2017 to August 2020.

“The late engineer worked very closely with my office and other local leaders in their endeavour to put Kisumu in the map of infrastructural development within the country,” Nyong’o said.

Key among them include the dualling of Kisumu Boys roundabout-Mamboleo junction (A1) road, the Ahero Interchange and the construction of Mamboleo-Muhoroni-Kipsitet (C674) road.

In addition, he said Osongo was very instrumental in the formation and operationalisation of the Lake Front Development Corporation, with the sole mandate of opening up the Kisumu Lake Front to promote the blue economy.

He played a strategic role in the planning, design and implementation of the urbanisation and beautification of Kisumu city project and negotiating the Kibuye Market modernisation project.

The governor said death has robbed Kenyans of a dependable and highly knowledgeable engineer who had a bright future in the public service.

“I have instructed the city manager Abala Wanga to join his family and friends in the burial arrangements. May God rest his soul in eternal peace,” Nyong’o said.
