ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi has set his eyes on the Mt Kenya region as he woos residents to support his presidential bid ahead of the 2022 polls.

Saturday evening marked the 7th time the ANC party leader was touring the vote-rich region in the recent past.

He was attending a fundraiser at St Cecilia Catholic Church Mirangine in Dondori, Nyandarua.

Mudavadi, who was hosted by Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia, was visiting the county for the second time in less than two months.

State House Comptroller and former Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua was present.

Since June this year, Mudavadi has visited Nyeri twice. He has also reached out to the people of Murang’a.

He was also in Nakuru barely two months ago and last week, he was in Githunguri, Kiambu county.

Mudavadi is set to visit Meru county next in his Mt Kenya region tours to sell his “Uchumi Bora na Pesa Mfukoni” agenda.

During the fundraiser, Mudavadi said Mt Kenya is a critical region in Kenyan politics, especially at this juncture when the polls are around the corner.

“We need a peaceful transition from President Uhuru Kenyatta's government to the Musalia Mudavadi administration. I can only achieve this with the support of the people of the mountain and Kenyans at large. I promise Kenyans that my agenda for this country is peace and a working economy that will guarantee wealth for all,” he said.

The ANC leader said he will continuously engage with the people of the region to discuss how to address their challenges.

“We are heading into a transition period when we go to the polls in August next year. I have come to talk to you as my friends, so that we can continuously identify the challenges of the people of Mt Kenya region and collectively begin to think of practical solutions that we will employ,” Mudavadi said.

Kimemia said Mudavadi was free to visit the region at any time.

“I will be inviting Mudavadi again and again. I have told my people that anyone who supports President Kenyatta in achieving his agenda is welcome to sell his policies to the people of Nyandarua,” the governor said.

Mbugua said the people of Mt Kenya will be keen to support a leader who promises to boost economic activities in the region – from tea and coffee farming, dairy business and trade in general.

“We should carefully interrogate the leaders we want to put in power. Our people need water, roads, schools, better healthcare and a working economy that will generate jobs. Those leaders who want us to keep seeing each other as enemies will not be a good choice for the country," he said.

"There are people whose goal is only to get into the State House next year. They are self-centred and they will eventually derail the development of this country.”
