Three National Police Reservists based in Elwak, Mandera, have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of two men.

The two men were shot dead in a car on June 21. The motive has been established and the suspected attackers identified.

Ali Abdi Ali, Mohamed Ibrahim Issack and Ahmed Mohamed Abdilatif are to be charged with the murder of Kulow Adfan Hassan and Ahmed Abdi Garad, police said.

This follows an investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

The probe file was taken to the Office of the Public Prosecutions, which gave consent for the arraignment.

Investigations found out that the trio allegedly shot at a Toyota Succeed ferrying passengers on Elwak-Dololo road en route to Wajir. Two people were killed.

The driver drove to Elwak police station and reported the attack.

The three suspects were arrested on Wednesday and positively identified by the survivors of the shooting.

The region faces a number of security challenges that have seen many projects stall.

The challenges include interclan fighting, al Shabaab attacks and lack of roads.

This has led to a trend of lawlessness.
