Deputy President William Ruto intends to become an evangelist when he's done with politics.

The DP made the declaration during a church service in Lavington, Nairobi on Saturday.

Ruto said he has always been a Christian.

“Many politicians don’t know how to behave in church because they are not Christians,” he said.

“I will later request that I speak to the man in charge of mission at this church so that I can support the work of God.”

The remark was in reference to many politicians who go to church and politic instead of concentrating on prayers.

Some churches have burnt politicking.

“You will not have any risk with me of speaking politics in church since I got saved as a Christian in a camp meeting in Murgusi in Turbo,” Ruto said.

The deputy president said a camp is a special place where people are nourished and they get to know God at a deeper understanding.

“It was the urge that I had today when I woke up and came to church. I want to encourage us to remember to thank God for the many blessings he has bestowed among us in Kenya,” he said.

“God will guide us and the church will pray for Kenya so that we can be united as nation that believes in God. And that we can trust God in the future of our nation.”

The DP said just like going to church, church donation is voluntary as instructed in scriptures and any move to control that is re-writing the Bible which he termed as blasphemy.

He spoke just a day after the Court of Appeal dismissed an appeal on the BBI judgment that was delivered by the High Court in May.

The High Court declared the proposed attempt to amend the Constitution null and void.

Ruto welcomed the decision terming the ruling as God's hand in coming through for the country.

"God, our heavenly father has come through for Kenya and stopped the coalition of the known, the mighty, and the powerful from destroying our Constitution. Our God, help the alliance of the unknown, the jobless, the hustlers and struggling farmers to now engineer our economy from the bottom up," the DP wrote on Twitter on Friday.

Ruto has in the past resorted to citing biblical verses.
