Mungai was arrested from his hideout in Kitengela town on Monday evening.

In Summary

• Ole Mungai, Mwongera said, was positively linked to the brutal killings after forensic investigations placed him at the scene of the crime.

•  MP Tobiko urged the state to enhance security in Olooltepes, Tuala, Olturoto and Korrompoi.

The prime suspect in the Kitengela murder of four Nairobi youths was on Tuesday presented before a Kajiado court.

Benson Melonyie ole Mungai, 40, did not take a plea after a court granted the police 10 days to conduct investigations into the August 8 lynchings.

Mungai was arrested from his hideout in Kitengela town on Monday evening. His arrest was announced by Kajiado county police commander Muthuri Mwongera.

His arrest comes a few days after the DCI took over investigations into the murders and moved to pursue the killers of Fredrick Mureithi, 30, his younger brother, Victor Mwangi, 25, Mike George and Nicholas Musa. The four were killed by a mob

Ole Mungai was positively linked to the brutal killings after forensic investigations placed him at the scene of the crime, Mwongera said.

On Monday, Kajiado East MP Peris Tobiko condemned the killings.

“Life is sacred and the sanctity of life is cardinal in humanity. There is no justification whatsoever to take away the lives of innocent young people,” Tobiko said.

The MP urged the state to enhance security in Olooltepes, Tuala, Olturoto and Korrompoi.

“Were the four young men killed in Kitengela criminals? Did the innocent souls deserve to die because of a complete lapse in security?” she asked.

“Our children today have dreadlocks, tattoos, speak no mother tongue, live in estates and can’t wait for the weekend to take a breather out of town to ride their bikes.”

The loss of lives of people and livestock, Tobiko said, must be treated separately and independently to end hooliganism.

Isinya subcounty police commander Charles Chepkonga told the Star on Monday night his officers had made a breakthrough in the investigations into the Kitengela killings.
