Suba South MP John Mbadi has said the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission should stop all its activities until the four commissioners nominated by President Uhuru Kenyatta are approved by  Parliament.

Mbadi said statements from IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati are not trusted.

“Please stop that which you are doing now until we get a full commission because we don’t trust you,” Mbadi said on Friday in Nyanza during an event attended by ODM leader Raila Odinga..

This comes as the commission continues planning for the 2022 General Election with three commissioners - Chebukati and commissioners Boya Molu and Abdi Guliye.

Mbadi, who is the ODM chairperson, expressed optimism that Parliament will approve the four nominated commissioners.

The President nominated Francis Wanderi, Justus Abonyo, Juliana Cherera, and Irene Cherop to be IEBC commissioners.

The four were among the 36 candidates that were shortlisted and interviewed by the Selection Panel.

He sent the names of the four to Parliament for vetting and approval.

They will be vetted by the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly which is chaired by Kangema MP Muturi Kigano.

The committee is scheduled to hold approval hearings on August 24 for all four nominees.

The commission was left with three commissioners following the resignation of Roselyn Akombe, Margaret Mwachanya, Paul Kurgat, and former Vice-Chair Consolata Maina in 2018.
