Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula is facing new a hurdle as he pursues partners following the death of Nasa.

His Ford Kenya rivals have written to the Registrar of Political Parties, saying Wetang'ula should not represent the party in any coalition agreements.

Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu and his Kanduyi counterpart Wafula Wamunyinyi said they have also written to ODM, asking the Raila Odinga-led party to withhold Ford Kenya's share of money from the Political Parties Fund.

ODM has already indicated that it will withhold the Sh36 million share of Ford Kenya until the court decides who the genuine party leaders are.

Simiyu said, however, they are glad that Wetang'ula now wants Ford Kenya to hold its National Delegates Congress.

“Let him pick the date and as the secretary general, I will make the announcement in two national papers.

"We want that NDC so that the party can elect new officials. We are waiting for them,” the Tongaren MP told journalists at a press briefing in Nairobi.

Simiyu said having new officials was the only way out of the wrangles that have dogged the party over the years.

The Kanduyi MP said they have also written to the Registrar of Political Parties to state that Wetang'ula has no mandate in Ford Kenya and cannot purport to enter into agreements with other parties.

“Wetang'ula should stop masquerading as a party official and engaging other party leaders.

"He should know that he is engaging other party leaders in his personal capacity. He should stop signing agreements on behalf of Ford Kenya,” Wamunyinyi said.

When contacted, Ford Kenya said the court had barred Simiyu from acting as secretary general and Wamunyinyi as party leader until a leadership dispute before it is heard and determined.

The party further said it had instructed its lawyers to prepare a response to the remarks by the Simiyu-led faction.

Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa nonetheless termed the rival camp 'a frustrated team seeking relevance through threats'.

“Let them form another party and move on because they are wasting time talking about a party that has its officials. They should not bring their frustrations to us,” he added.

Wamalwa further said the rival faction has no powers at all to purport to speak on behalf of the party.

On July 31, Wetang'ula announced the party's exit from Nasa after chairing the National Executive Council, where members endorsed the withdrawal.

Wetangula further said Ford Kenya would still demand a share of parties' funds despite quitting Nasa.

On August 3, Wetang'ula, ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi and Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper) wrote to the Registrar of Political Parties seeking to exit Nasa.

They announced they will now engage other parties as One Kenya Alliance.
