Uhuru to address UK investors, attend climate change event

The President is scheduled to meet Prince Charles and Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

President Uhuru Kenyatta will this morning in London engage in two key events relating to climate change and investments.

The President will start the day at an event at the historic Kew Gardens to celebrate Kenyan leadership on climate action and build momentum towards COP26.

The event will include a briefing for Uhuru with COP President Alok Sharma ahead of the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference in November.

They will also witness the signing and submission of Official Joining of Government of Kenya to the Adaptation Action Coalition for Endorsement of the UN Climate Action Summit (UNCAS) call for Action on Adaptation on Resilience.

This will be followed by a tree-planting ceremony at Kew to symbolise the uniting of the Platinum Jubilee tree-planting campaign with Kenya’s allocation of the Mau Forest Reserve to the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy.

Uhuru and Sharma will then participate in a marketplace event that will showcase a range of climate technologies and solutions that have come out of the partnership between the UK and Kenya.

These will include the UK and Kenyan Met offices; the UK Space Agency and Kenya Forest Service; and UK-Kenyan companies investing in innovative, affordable, and green solutions in Kenya.

They will also meet Kenyan scientists working at Kew, who will outline Kew’s research partnerships with East Africa.

Later, the President will be hosted by UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab in an event at Mansion House, in London’s historic financial district.

The President will address the Kenya-UK Investment Forum, themed “Building Stronger Financial Partnerships Between Kenya and the UK under the Kenya-UK Strategic Partnership”.

The Foreign Secretary is expected to make significant announcements on the UK’s support for Big Four projects in Kenya.

The two will also witness the signing of an MoU launching cooperation Between Nairobi International Financial Centre Authority and The City UK.

On Wednesday, the President is scheduled to meet Prince Charles and Prime Minister Boris Johnson at different events.
