A senior police officer charged with defiling his 15-year-old sister-in-law has been freed on a Sh200,000 bond.

Sergeant David Kaperia was on Tuesday arraigned before Makadara principal magistrate Eva Kanyiri.

Kaperia pleaded not guilty to the charges. Kanyiri freed him on a Sh200,000 bond and directed the matter to be heard on September 22.

The court heard that on June 25 at Matopeni area in Kayole within Nairobi county, the officer defiled the minor.

He was also faced with an alternative charge of committing an indecent act with a child.

The court heard that on that day the officer indecently touched the girl.

The officer attached to Kayole police station was arrested the same day.

He has been in remand at the police station after the court last week granted investigating officers five days to detain the accused pending investigations.

According to the documents before court, the girl was in the kitchen in their residential house washing dishes at around 10am when the accused entered the house.

He got hold of her and pulled her to the sitting room where he forcefully removed her clothes and defiled her.

The minor informed her sister who escorted her to Kayole police station where the matter was reported.

She was later taken to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital where she was treated and discharged.
