Maasai Mara University's Chief Finance Officer Spencer Sankale Ololchike, famed for whistleblowing on the graft at the institution 'Mara Heist', has been sacked.

In a letter seen by the Star on Saturday, Ololchike was sacked for sustained insolence to his employer.

Other charges include; Sustained cyber bullying, malicious misrepresentation of his employer, libel and defamation falsely maligning the image and reputation of the university

Sustained disregard of university standards and procedures, sustained incitement of university staff and the public against his employer, gross insubordination and failure to act in the best interest of the university.

“Due to the above, the Council resolved to terminate your employment with immediate effect,” Chairman of the council Kenned Kerei said.

Kerei said Ololchike will be paid one month salary in lieu of  the notice.

“You are requested to clear with the university by completing and returning the attached form,” he added.

The termination comes nearly two years after the Mara Heist was run. The exposé was run by Citizen TV on September 1, 2019.

The expose showed how the University Vice-Chancellor Mary Walingo was at the centre of an alleged scandal that saw the varsity lose millions of shillings.

At the centre of the exposé were Spencer, Wilberforce Serem who was then acting finance officer and 2 others two others who sought anonymity.

The expose put to light the systematic embezzlement by university officials.

It stirred up public reactions with varsity unions demanding the VC to step aside for investigations.

The Kenya Universities Staff Union and the University and Academic Staff Union said Walingo is unfit to occupy public office.
