Vincent Muasya popularly known as Chipukeezy has been appointed as the new Nacada Board Vice-Chairman.

The popular comedian was elected by the National Authority for Campaigns Against Alcohol and Drugs Abuse (Nacada) during a meeting on Tuesday.

While announcing the election in a statement on Wednesday, the authority said the board chairperson Mabel Imbua described Chipukeezy as instrumental in steering the Nacada's mandate.

According to Imbua, Chipukeezy resonates well with the youth who are the critical target group for Nacada's campaigns.

On his part, Chipukeezy pledged to utilize the opportunity to spearhead children and youth programs in line with Nacada's strategic plan to help those struggling with addiction in the country.

Chipukeezy was appointed as a member of the Board of Directors at Nacada in 2019 following his campaigns against drugs and alcoholism.

He has often urged the youth to stop stigmatizing alcohol taking and become open about it.

In 2019, Chipukeezy championed against Kenya legalising marijuana saying the country is not ready yet.

"Yes, marijuana has a medicinal aspect, but the reason we can't legalise it is because we don't have the capacity to do that," he said.

"We've already legalised alcohol and we are unable to control it and people are dying every day.
