Hosea Kiplagat, 75, is dead.

The former powerful politician was a close associate and aide to former President Daniel Moi.

According to the family, the former Co-operative Bank chairman died on Saturday morning, around 9:30 in the morning, while at the Karen Hospital, Nairobi.

Kiplagat, whose home is at Tenges area in Baringo Central, was known to have been one of the closest aides of Moi.

He unsuccessfully vied for the Baringo Central seat on a Kanu ticket and went into a quiet life after Moi's retirement.

He is also known to have had wide business interests in the banking and transport sectors.

As a powerful Kanu politician, he was also known to be an insider in Moi's government and was involved in the scenes decision making
