President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to meet with national officials of the Boda boda Society Association as he drums up support for the Building Bridges Initiative report.

Government Spokesperson Cyrus Oguna on Thursday said the president will meet the boda boda officials on Friday at the Pumwani Social Hall, Nairobi from 10am.

The move has has elicited reactions from Deputy President William Ruto’s camp, as the DP has been meeting boda boda operators, mama mbogas and other ordinary citizens he refers to as 'hustlers' as he campaigns.

On many occasions, Ruto has been criticized by his opponents, including Raila, for giving Kenyans 'peanuts', yet he is wealthy.

In the latest attack to Ruto, Raila said it was ironic that the DP has just realised the presence of boda boda riders as well as the small business community in the country yet he has been in power for eight years.

"Someone would come and start saying we need to talk about the common man, poor man, mkokoteni, driver and so on…but you’ve been there all this time. You didn’t drop from heaven like an angel. You’ve been around," Rail said.

"Is it the first time that you've discovered about mkokoteni people? The haves and haves not? If you're really concerned, why give them wheelbarrows and not your helicopter?"

While in Kisii on Wednesday, Uhuru, in the company of Raila, Kisii County Governor James Ongwae, and the Interior CS Fred Matiang’i met with hundreds of boda boda operators.

Uhuru and Raila contributed Sh3 million for the Kisii boda boda operators.

The president used the opportunity to ask them to support the BBI, which he said was meant to unite the country.

Ruto, who skipped the handover ceremony of the BBI report, said while in Uasin Gishu that the issues affecting ordinary Kenyans need to be addressed even as the country shifts focus to BBI.
