No PSV movement in and out of Nairobi without compliance - Uhuru

Uhuru said his government has chosen 'health over the economy'.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed that there will be no movement of public transport in Nairobi, Mombasa, and Mandera without the right certifications.

"There will be no movement of public transport without the providers being compliant," he said.

Uhuru said that to operate PSV vehicles, the operators will require certification from ministry of Health in consultation with the transport ministry.

 

"Conscious that movement of people is a catalyst for the spread of the disease, there shall be no movement of public transport vehicles into and out of the areas previously under cessation of movement restrictions.." he said.

"They must be compliant with all protocols developed by Ministry of Health. To operate, Public Service Vehicles the operators will require mandatory certification from the Ministry of Health, in consultation with Ministry of Transport."

He further noted that local Air Travel within the Territory of the Republic of Kenya shall resume effective Wednesday, 15th July, 2020.

"...in strict conformity with all applicable guidelines and protocols from both the Ministry of Health and civil aviation authorities," he said.

The move comes after three months of suspension of all travels in and out of the country.

Uhuru  also lifted the cessation of movement in Nairobi Metropolitan Area, Mombasa and Mandera counties from Tuesday, June 7, 2020. 

However, the President has extended the nationwide curfew currently in place between 9 pm and 5 am by another 30 days.

 

Speaking when he addressed the nation on Monday, Uhuru said his government has chosen health over the economy.
