Elgeiyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen is now asking for more government interventions in locating displaced persons following the Sigor landslide.

The landslide occurred over the weekend in Kerio Valley affecting residents in West Pokot county and Marakwet East constituency.

The aftermath of the landslide includes a trail of deaths with over 20 persons including four police officers confirmed dead and over 15 persons missing.

"I wish to commend the government for the quick efforts undertaken to manage the current situation. However, little or no effort has been made to account for the over 15 persons missing as a result of the landslide," he said.

This was part of Murkomen's speech during the Senate sitting on Tuesday.

The lawmaker revealed that the search and recovery have been left largely to the locals who are ill-equipped to undertake such an exercise.

Residents are continuing to struggle with lack of housing, swollen rivers and destroyed roads that have left certain areas inaccessible.

Murkomen further wants the government to state whether there is any form of compensation that will be granted to the families and victims who are counting huge losses as a result of the destruction of property and loss of lives.
