Nine people died on Friday evening in a grisly road accident at Chepsir on Nakuru-Kericho road.

A 14-seater matatu and a trailer were involved in a head-on collision.

Witnesses said the accident occurred at around 5:45pm.

Kericho police boss Justus Kitetu said the trailer was ferrying fuel from Kisumu to Nairobi.

He said the truck driver was on the wrong lane leading to the collision.

Six people died on the spot while three others succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital.

The matatu was heading towards Kericho while the tanker was on its way to Nakuru.
