Kibra was a beehive of activity on Sunday as contenders in the November 7 by-election took their campaigns to churches.

Ford Kenya, Amani National Congress and the Orange Democratic Movement introduced their candidates to voters and asked for support.

Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang'ula and his ANC counterpart Musalia Mudavadi accompanied their candidates Khamisi Butichi and Eliud Owalo.

ODM’s candidate Imran Okoth, on the other hand, was in the company of aspirants who lost the nomination to him.

Wetang'ula and his entourage were guests at Mashimoni Friends Church and Lindi Central PAG Church.

The Ford Kenya leader called for peaceful elections and asked constituents to shun candidates who insult their competitors and incite people to violence.

“Leadership comes from God. If God says it is Butichi, then he will be the next MP for Kibra. Even if you go to Loliondo, nothing will change,” he told worshipers at Mashimoni.

Mudavadi and his team attended service at Church of God Line Saba and Anduoso PAG Church in Lindi.

Owalo pledged to reform the NG-CDF office and ensure there is ethnic balance. “I will not appoint any of my relatives to the office,” he said. He also promised to increase NG-CDF bursaries from the current Sh5, 000 to Sh10, 000.

Okoth accompanied by Benson Musungu, Brian Owino and John Otieno Milla attended church service at Friends Quakers Makina, Salvation Army Kianda, Emmanuel Lutheran Church and PAG Church Makina.

They said Imran grew up in Kibra and therefore understands the needs of the constituents well.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission last week cleared 23 hopefuls, seven of whom will be contesting as independent candidates.
