The land reclamation at Kibarani dumpsite, Mombasa, is going on.

The remaining 100-metre beach distance estimated by authorities before Mombasa loses its island status, is drastically reducing.

And despite an order stopping reclamation by Nema and the National Assembly Committee on Environment, the county is still carrying on with the task.

Mombasa governor Hassan Joho said Kibarani will be turned into a recreational site.

Nema Mombasa director Steven Wambua said they are not acting because the court is handling the case.

Environment executive Godfrey Nato did not respond for comment.

County lands boss Edward Nyale said, “I haven’t been there [Kibarani] lately. Talk to Nato.”

County director of communication Richard Chacha promised to get back, but did not.
