Officers from the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission on Wednesday raided Kisii lands registry and arrested the registrar, four staff members and a broker.

The EACC officers led by South Nyanza Regional Manager David Kang’ara ransacked the offices for more than four hours before they arrested the six.

Addressing the press after the impromptu search, Kangara said they have been surveying the office for three months.

“We raided the office following allegations that the registrar and the staff have been colluding with blockers to deny the Government revenue,” Kang’ara said.

The manager said they recovered Sh34, 000 in various denominations from the suspects.

“We have managed to recover Sh34, 000 from the suspects and the treated ones which we used to lay a trap,” he added.

He said that the cartel used to issue certificates and charge residents more money while seeking for search services at the office.

He said that the six will record statements at the EACC offices before they are arraigned in court.

“The suspects will be arraigned in court as soon as we get direction from the office of the DPP,” he said.
