More than 200 street families were evicted from the Nairobi CBD in a crackdown by city officials on Tuesday night.
The operation was staged in a bid to curb rising cases of
crime
in the central business district.
Peter Mbaya of the City Inspectorate Department said the eviction will also assist in decongesting the city centre.

"Those above 18 years were taken to Central, Kamukunji, and Makongeni police stations."
"Those underage
were taken to YMCA in Makadara and others to different homes in Kayole," he said.
There were rising cases of daring street children attacking residents by snatching their bags and even sexually harassing them.
Globe Roundabout, Tom Mboya Street, around Kenya Cinema, Moi Avenue, and around Sunken Park are some of the common
hideouts.
"Some of these so-called street families are actually gangsters. By removing them from the streets, we will help reduce crime within CBD," Mbaya said.
He said the
operation will continue up to the end of this week.
