Sonko on Friday said he inherited a huge amount of bills that had accumulated over the years.

"The pending bills need to be cleared. However, the County Government would like to assure itself that the debts are authentic and the

He said the county wants to enhance it finance management system and improve its debt management also.

To achieve this, Sonko has nominated a ten-member County Pending Bills Committee.

In a letter dated January 31, Sonko has appointed the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Director General, the Principal Secretary State Department of Public Works and the CEO of the Institute of Certified Public Accounts to the Committee.

Others are; Director General Public Procurements Oversight Authority, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims and the Auditor General.

According to Elkana Jacob who is the deputy director communication and senior press chief officer said Sonko is tremendously concerned about revenue since the county has huge pending debts.

Other members are police commissioner Hussein Ali, former DCI Muhoro Ndegwa, Swaleh Slim, former minister for roads and veteran politician Franklin Bett among others.

“The governor is much concerned about revenue collection. Several suspects have been arrested over graft claims,” Elkana said.

The four others are; the Secretary-General National Council of Churches of Kenya, the Nairobi County Clerk, one Mr Erick Mutua and Mr Patrick Lumumba, the Director of Kenya School of Law.

The Governor said those who have been appointed in the Committee are eminent persons of good public reputation.

They will verify and validate details of each pending bill and advise the Nairobi County Government accordingly.

"This will enable the County to pay the genuine claims," Sonko said.
