Motorists will be forced to dig deeper for fuel until mid next month following an increase in fuel prices as reviewed by ERC on Wednesday.

In the review for November 15-December 14, pump prices shot up by more than Sh2.50 per litre.

Super petrol recorded the least jump of Sh2.38 to retail at Sh118.11 per litre in Nairobi while diesel went up by Sh3.11 to trade at Sh112.83.

Poor households that depend on kerosene for lighting and cooking were not spared either as the regulator increased a litre of kerosene by Sh2.99 to sell at Sh111.83 in Nairobi.

The new prices take effect at midnight.

The Energy Regulatory Authority director general Pavel Oimeke attributed the latest increase in prices to weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products.

"Imported Super Petrol increased by 4.02% from US$ 729.04 (Sh75,025.51)

per ton in September 2018 to US$ 758.34 (Sh78,040.77)

per ton in October 2018," he said.

In Mombasa, petrol will retail at Sh115.48 per litre, diesel at Sh110.21, and kerosene at Sh109.20.

The commodities will go for Sh119.56, Sh114.50 and Sh113.49 for petrol, diesel and kerosene respectively in the lake side town of Kisumu.

Motorists in Nakuru will part with Sh118.57 for petrol, Sh113.51 for diesel while domestic users will buy a litre of kerosene at Sh112.50.

In Eldoret, petrol, diesel and kerosene will retail at Sh119.57, Sh114.50 and Sh113.50 respectively.

Oimeke said changes in diesel prices, the highest of the three, was due to the increase in average landed cost of the product by 5.84 per cent from US$ 700.41 per ton recorded in September to US$741.33 per ton recorded in October.

He attributed price changes in kerosene to a 5.80 per cent increase from US$721.64 per ton to US$763.47 per ton in October.

The new pump prices were arrived at on the basis of Sh101.16 exchange rate of

the Kenya shilling to US Dollar.
