The police service has signed an MoU with NYS for the manufacture of the new police uniforms.

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet said the deal penned on Tuesday will also see 280 servicemen absorbed as attachés to the Integrated Communication Command and Control centre at the NPS headquarters.

“The servicemen will work alongside police officers at the command centre after which the eligible ones will be enlisted as Police Officers,” Boinnet said in a tweet.

The IG, who visited the national Youth Service’s tailoring factory, assessed their preparedness and said the manufacture of the new uniforms will kick off soon.

The deal was signed together with the acting NYS director general Matilda Sakwa.

On September 13, President Uhuru made major changes in the police service and unveiled the new police uniforms for general duty police officers.

In the changes, the majority of the AP officers will be absorbed into the Kenya Police Service.

The few that will remain will have their duties redefined.

The president said the dark blue uniforms “will enhance better visibility for the officers”.

This will be the first time the Kenya Police will change the uniforms since independence.

The uniforms have traditionally been navy blue trousers paired with light blue shirts and navy blue helmets/berets.
