Mob kills two suspected cattle thieves in Ol Kalou

Two suspected cattle thieves were killed by residents of Kibute village in Ol kalou in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

They were identified as David Macharia (35) from Kikopey in Gilgil, Nakuru county, and James Karomo (38) from Gatarwa in Mawingu, Ol kalou.

The two were cornered at about 13.20 am and found

with knives and pangas.

Residents took them to an open field near Mumbi Forest where most cows, donkeys, sheep and goats are slaughtered once stolen.

Macharia and Karomo were beaten before a fire was lit.

Mirangine OCPD Thomas Sangut said the area chief notified police of the incident, but that Karomo had died by the time Ol kalou OCS Mark Masinde arrived.

Macharia died at JM Memorial Hospital where he was taken.

Livestock theft has escalated in Nyandarua but County commissioner Boaz Cherotich said his counterparts in neighbouring counties were looking into solutions.

He said

most of the animals stolen in Nyandarua are sold at butcheries in places including Naivasha and Gilgil in Nakuru.
