There was drama in Bungoma town on Tuesday when auctioneers and Nzoia sugar company staff engaged in running battles over a court order.

Troubled started when Dominion Yard auctioneers tried to impound a vehicle belonging to Nzoia Sugar on Moi Avenue opposite National Bank.

The people, who were with a group of youths said to have been armed, tried to force the driver out but he resisted.

He engaged them in a fist fight attracting a crowd that rushed to his rescue.

"Why are you treating me as a thief? Who are you? If you are doing something right why don't we go to the police station?" he was overheard asking as the auctioneers carried on.

Boda boda operators joined in the fight, siding with the driver and fighting the Dominion workers.

Police guarding the nearby National Bank intervened and dispersed the group.

The driver then sped off, almost hitting onlookers.

The Star established that the matter concerned a case involving the family of Lilian Emako who was allegedly killed by a person driving the company's car in a road accident.

Her relatives Lawrence Emakol and Robert Ouko won a compensation suit filed at a Bungoma court.

They were awarded Sh1.9 million which has reportedly not been paid.

The Domion Yard auctioneers obtained a court order to take over properties of Nzoia Sugar Company.

The miller's managers did not answer calls and SMSs for comment on the matter.
