Seven Pakistanis to face more charges amid tax evasion probe

DCI officers will re-arrest and charge seven Pakistani nationals for engaging in unlawful businesses in Kenya.

The detectives have already notified the ODPP of their intention to press more charges against seven of 11 Pakistanis arrested in Mombasa in January.

Ten of the suspects are Ramesh Kumar, Sawai Singh (32), Sunil Kumar (24), Karen Kumar (25), Khaman Deep (25), Manosh Kumar (26), Haresh Kumar (27), Saleem Imtiaz (26), Nakash Narain (28) and Bhojo Tharo (37).

The unidentified 11th suspect was taken to court later.

Four of the Pakistanis were deported after pleading guilty to the charges.

Mombasa CID boss Washington Njiru said

the suspects and their companies are being investigated for engaging in tax evasion, illegal employment and money laundering.

The companies include Ramesh Commodity Limited, Focus Trading Limited and Emke Global Kenya Limited.

“We have completed our investigation .... the seven will be charged with working in the country without permits," Njiru told reporters on Monday.

Last week Kumar was sentenced to two years in hail with the alternative of a Sh50,000 fine

for visiting Uganda.

Kumar pleaded guilty to defying High Court orders barring him from leaving the country without the authorisation of the court.

He allegedly left the country between March 11 and 12 and went to Entebbe, Uganda.

He was arrested at the JKIA in Nairobi while returning.
