A student of Coulson Boys secondary school is fighting for his life after fire gutted the institution's dormitory in a suspected arsonist attack.

The student was rushed to KNH for specialised treatment following the Saturday night incident that affected over 100 learners.

Thirty others at the private school, which has been temporarily closed, sustained minor injuries.

Police and members of the public had a hard time containing the fire that burned down the dormitory. The students lost all their personal effects.

One of the students said the fire started from the door trapping them inside and leading to a commotion where scores of them were injured.

The student said that they heard a loud bang before the fire broke out, signalling that the arsonists must have used a petrol bomb.

"We first heard a loud bang on the roof then screams followed by smoke. We had to break the backdoor so that we could save our lives," he said.

Gilgil sub-county commissioner Ndambuki Mutheki said the police have launched investigations into the incident.

The administrator said the cause of the inferno is yet to be established adding that police are questioning some students over the incident.
