Cherangany MP Joshua Kuttuny wants the president to consider keeping Water minister Eugene Wamalwa in the Cabinet.

Kuttuny, who once served as President Uhuru Kenyatta's adviser, said Wamalwa should serve as Water or Agriculture Cabinet Secretary.

"There is still need for Trans Nzoia to have a Cabinet Secretary who can observe and implement government policies and help address water and agricultural problems the county's residents and farmers face," he told The Star by phone on Tuesday.

Wamalwa is among 13 cabinet secretaries whose names were not in Uhuru's first list.

In Friday’s national briefing, the president named Henry Rotich (Treasury), Najib Balala (Tourism), Charles Keter (Energy and petroleum), Fred Matiang’i (Interior), Joe Mucheru (ICT) and James Macharia (Transport).

Kuttuny noted he, Wamalwa and other Jubilee Party leaders delivered votes for Uhuru during the August 8 and October 26 elections.

"Leaving him out in the cold will paint a bad picture.

I diligently worked with Wamalwa during Jubilee campaigns and delivered for our president. There is actually need for him to be awarded the CS position so people of Trans Nzoia can be happy.

"Our farmers have problems with prices of maize and other produce. Getting an agriculture minister will help solve such difficulties."

Some of the county's leaders are optimistic that Wamalwa will get a slot when the final list is issued.

Professionals Sam Okema, Fred Wanyonyi and Ronald Masindano said the CS deserves another term because he performed well.

"People should stop the speculation that Wamalwa has been sacked. Uhuru cannot leave him out because he helped him during campaigns," Masindano wrote on the WhatsApp group of Trans Nzoia's Luhya professionals.

Joel Wafula said: "The president might not appoint Eugene as the minister but can award him the Attorney General post because of his experience as justice minister."

The current Attorney General is Githu Muigai.

Some residents accused Uhuru of convincing Wamalwa to dissolve his party, only to throw him out of government.

Ben Juma from Saboti, who supported New Ford Kenya party, said the president should consider retaining the minister.

Kelvin Wekesa, a NASA supporter, said Wamalwa should have joined NASA and helped remove Uhuru and Deputy President William Ruto from power.

"The truth of the matter is that Eugene seems to have been dumped. How can you use someone to get votes from western and then dump him?"

NASA candidates Raila Odinga (ODM) and Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper) are planing their own swearing in on January

30.
