A cross-section

of Western region MPs

have vowed to unite and ensure they speak in one voice ahead of the 2022 polls.

The legislatures said this

will enable them to bargain for a bigger stake before the next elections.

Led by MPs Sakwa Bunyasi (Nambale) and Bumula’s Mwambu Mabonga, the leaders said they will mobilise their colleagues both in government and opposition to begin unity talks early in advance.

Bunyasi, the chairman of Western Luhya’s MPs caucus, said endless divisions in the past have cost the region a lot

in the political arena.

“Luhya community is the second in population but we are not capitalizing on our strength politically, we need to unite and work together for the sake of this country’s prosperity,” he said.

The MPs spoke on Sunday in Bumula during the official opening of the Gospel celebration Centre church in Kimaeti ward.

They said the divisions among Luhya leaders ‘Is our main undoing and the community needs to chat the way forward,.

“These Nasa versus Jubilee politics has sharply divided the community’s leaders in the middle, the elections just came to an end just the other day and we need to unite and work together,” he said.

He continued “As the chairman of all the Western MPs who are mainly Luhyas, Iteso and the Sabaots we want to come together when the house resumes regardless of our different political affiliations and give our people sound direction that will yield fruits,”.

Mabonga asked Luhya leaders to put aside their political affiliations and stop chest thumping so that they can chat for a formidable unity of purpose.

“We want the young energetic leaders who were elected to take over the mantle of spearheading Luhya unity as the community eyes state house in 2022 polls,’ he added.

The legislators said that the more Luhya leaders fight each other the more they lose what they needed to do for the community.

‘We want our top three Luhya leaders CS water Eugene Wamalwa, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and my senator Moses Wetangula to come together and meet and talk on how we are going to champion the interest of our people which is a very key thing in this time and era,’ Mwambu said.
