A Technical University of Mombasa bus was on Friday night involved in a road accident in Maungu as it headed to Nairobi.

Co-driver Athman Bwanamzee died on the spot, Vice Chancellor Laila Abubakar said.

She said three students sustained injuries and were rushed to Moi Referral Hospital in Voi.

"The bus hit a standing truck. The visibility at night was low," she said.

Abubakar said the students were headed to Nairobi for Kenya University Sports Association games.

"The driver and some passengers are okay," she said on Saturday.

TUM was on Friday closed indefinitely after prolonged lecturers' strike.
