Celebrations were delayed in most Elgeyo Marakwet schools following troubles with the SMS query service for KCPE tests.

Many parents and candidates were forced to use Airtel after the Safaricom system collapsed.

Education CS Fred Matiang'i asked candidates to send their index numbers to 22252 to get their results.

Jacob Toroitich, head teacher Sacred Heart of Jesus Academy in Iten, said they were forced to use Airtel following the delays.

More on results:

Toroitich said he had received results of 10 out of 72 candidates by press time.

"We have tried to query the results through Safaricom but we have not received the results," he said.

"We opted to use Airtel and the results are beginning to stream in."

Two candidates at Sacred Heart scored 294 while another two had 388 marks.

At nearby Salaba Academy, anxious parents turned up to wait for the results following the delay.

"We don’t know what is going on. I sent a message soon after the CS announced the results but I have not received my child's results. It is now 3pm and I am still waiting," one said.

She said results of only two candidates who scored 414 and 407 marks had been received through the SMS service.

The initial results showed candidates in most public schools posted more than 400 marks compared to 2016.

At Toroko Primary School, Marakwet East, a candidate scored 415 marks while one at Nyawa Primary school got 409 marks, in confirmations sent at about 3pm.
