A sombre mood engulfed a school in Cheranganyi, Trans Nzoia county after one of the KCSE candidates died on Thursday night in a road accident.
Kevin Erot, a form four student at AIC Chematich secondary school

was knocked down at Maili Saba along Kitale- Kapenguria road.

Police are yet to arrest the driver of the car after he sped off after the accident.
A brother of the deceased Brian Erot said Kevin was going to pick a book for revision from a neighbour just across the road.
"It's very sad he never reached, as he was about to cross the road he was hit by a car that sped off,"

he said.

Area residents called on the police to speed up investigations.
"This road has become so prone to accidents and we need an urgent intervention from the officers," said Carolyn Nafula a Maili Saba resident.
She said six lives have been

lost in the same spot and most of them are hit and run cases.

"It's sad that this time around we have lost a young and brilliant mind," she said.
The school principal Gideon Ambuche said that it was hard for him to break the sad news to the other candidates.
"I received a call from the mother of the deceased this morning informing me of the death," he said.
He said that they had to counsel the other 63 candidates before sitting for their paper.
Trans Nzoia west OCPD confirmed the incident, he said the body was moved to Kitale county hospital mortuary.
