More than 30,000 mourners are expected at Nyeri governor Wahome Gakuru burial on Saturday.

Infrastructure CEC Muthui Kariuki confirmed President Uhuru Kenyatta will attend the ceremony.

DP William Ruto and the entire cabinet will also go

Kagumo Boys' High School grounds.

Gakuru, an alumni of the school, will be laid to rest at his Kirichu home in Nyeri Town constituency.

It is not clear whether Opposition leaders including Raila Odinga will attend the ceremony. Raila will return from the US on Friday.

"There is the probability that the opposition will attend the event. Raila attended the burial of former Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua in February this year, he might also attend this one," Kariuki added.

Residents are already making preparations for the burial and inmates have joined youths in preparing the grave that was dug on Wednesday.

Other including masons and grave diggers were busy putting concrete on the grave.

Wonder Joy Party World Company workers erected tents at the school grounds, arranged chairs, prepared roads and connected power to the main venue.

Nyeri clerics, choirs, the county government staff and family also made preparations for a dignified burial.

Member of the caravan group Uhuruto Express team visited the family on Thursday.

Led by former MP Jamleck Kamau, they mourned Gakuru as a humble leader full of vision and hope for the country.

"We traversed this country seeking the President's election and his love for the people as well as plans for Nyeri county were inspiring," Jamleck said.

Politician Karungo wa Thang'wa called on the leaders to observe Gakuru's goodwill.

Others present were former Nyeri woman representative Priscilla Nyokabi, Florence Kajuju and ambassador Kembi Gitura.

Gakuru died last week last Tuesday after a horrific accident along Thika Superhighway after serving as governor for only three months.
