A three-day governors' induction that has been halted three times so far will start next Tuesday in Kwale.

The event has been moved from Mombasa due to lack of enough accommodation for those attending the induction.

A meeting held on November 6 sealed Kwale as the preferred venue.

Mombasa county boss Hassan Joho was stripped of hosting rights because of what has been termed hostility.

His push for Coast secession partly contributed to the decision but he maintained on Thursday that self-rule is a must.

It is understood State House asked the Council of Governors, which is the organiser, to choose a favourable venue.

Kwale Governor Saalim Mvurya is a member of the ruling Jubilee Party.

But by close of business on Wednesday,

the CoG, which is chaired by Josphat Nanok (Turkana), said they had not received funds for the meeting.

Details:

Uhuru, Deputy President William Ruto, and other Jubilee leaders have spoken in favour of devolution as part of their plan to develop all parts of Kenya.

He said last February that devolution is working, praised national and county governments for progress and asked governors to help him deliver his campaign promises.

On August 29, three days before the historic Supreme Court judgment, the council postponed the meeting that was to take place at Pride Inn Paradise, Shanzu from September 4-7.

Naviasha was floated as the next host from around September 19 but the suggestion was abandoned.

After rigorous consultations, organisers planned the induction for October 2 at Whitesands Hotel. But it was halted again after uncertainty about the political impasse and rising tensions over Election Laws (Amendments) Bill, which later became law.

Uhuru will open the meeting while Ruto will close it on Thursday. CoG leaders will be election from 11am to about noon on Thursday.

Ruto will announce the leaders after issuing his speech.
