A Kitale resident accused of

repeatedly defiling his two teenage daughters has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The man allegedly committed the crimes against his 13 and 14-year-olds between 2013 and 2015.

The victims told the court their father sexually assaulted them in turns on different nights.

They said their mother went Saudi Arabia in 2013 and that they and their younger brother were left in their father's care.

The family lives in a mosque compound in Velos village, Trans Nzoia county.

"One night as we slept, our father came and ordered that I remove my clothes. He also removed his and did things to me," the older girl said.

She told the Kitale court the man did the same to her sister on another day.

"This became the culture. He threatened us using a panga whenever we [rejected his advances]."

The minors reported that their father got angry when they turned him down

on October 20, 2015.

"He then threatened not to pay our school fees and refused to buy us food."

The girls said that it was at that point that they decided to share their troubles with neighbours who included two women.

The allegations were reported at

Kitale police station and medical checks carried out at Kitale referral hospital. The doctors' report indicated the girls' organs had been damaged.

Senior resident magistrate Vincent Adet issued the 10-year punishment for incest.

The man has 14 days to appeal the ruling.
