Senator Irungu Kang'ata has offered

Murang'a residents free transport from Nairobi for the presidential vote on Thursday.

In a notice seen by The Star on Tuesday, the Senator said the only requirement is an ID.

"I will be at the Koinange petrol station and stage on Thursday morning by 6am to ensure very Murang'a voter gets transport to their polling station. All they need to do is show up...I will pay the matatus cash," Kang'ata told the Star.

The Senate deputy chief whip said he is working with Governor Mwangi wa Iria and woman representative Sabina Chege, to ensure 98 per cent voter turnout.

"I have consulted my fellow leaders and we have sworn to even sell anything to ensure all Murang'a residents cast their votes and ensure President Uhuru Kenyatta is re-elected," he said.

"Murang'a, twende tukavote (let's go and vote)," the notice reads. "Others willing to support are welcome."

The county is one of Jubilee Party's strongholds.

Ahead of the August 8 election, Wa Iria contracted boda boda operators to transport people to polling stations for JP nominations.

The sick, the disabled and the aged were given priority.
