NASA leader Raila Odinga’s politics is only about dividing people and must be resisted, Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria has said.

Wa Iria said Raila is out to divide the people of the Coast and those upcountry for his own selfish gains.

Speaking at a luncheon organised by former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar at Jubilee Hall in Mombasa on Friday, Wa Iria said the Coast people and those upcountry need each other.

He said the anti-Kikuyu and anti-Kalenjin politics "promoted by Raila" is detrimental to the economy of Mombasa and the Coast region.

“We, the Kikuyu are your best friends because we are businesspeople,” he said.

He said the coffee, tea and milk from Murang’a county is exported through the Mombasa port and the latter cannot exist in isolation as it needs other parts of the country to develop.

“There is no Mombasa without upcountry, and there is no upcountry without Mombasa,” the Governor said.

He said Mombasa people have not realised the potential Mombasa has and the region is the gateway to East Africa.

“You don’t know the gem that you are holding,” he said.

He said Mombasa must not let Raila block the full realisation if the Mombasa potential by sowing seeds of division between them and upcountry people.

“You must jealously guard Mombasa,” he said.

He said Mombasa residents and those upcountry are like business partners.

“The greatest enemy is one who tries to divide you and your business partner. There is no way someone can be allowed to incite you against your business partner,” said the Governor.

He noted that the Kikuyu, Kalenjin, and other communities living upcountry are the best friends that Mombasa residents have.

“What Raila is doing is profiling Kenya. We are your best friends,” Wa Iria added.

Raila has called for countrywide demonstrations on October 26.

Most of his strongholds intend to boycott the repeat election and in the past week, supporters have stormed training of IEBC officials for the poll.
