One person was injured as police fired teargas at more than 1,000 opposition supporters marching through Nairobi on Wednesday

to demand election reforms.

The supporters chanted 'no reforms no elections' and 'Chiloba must go' while dancing.

They met their leaders at Uhuru Park for several hours before proceeding to the streets.

The demonstrators were

cautioned against looting and destroying property to avoid clashing with police officers.

Siaya Senator James Orengo said the coalition has resolved to stage demonstrations every day, starting next week, so IEBC can take them seriously.

The demonstrations were initially to take place on Mondays and Fridays.

After NASA chiefs Raila Odinga and Kalonzo withdrew from the presidential race on Tuesday, the Opposition said it would intensify the mass action.

Orengo said

Raila opted to withdraw

after the commission showed it does not intend to address any of NASA's concerns.

"There is no way the coalition can participate in an election with the same people accused of being the masterminds of the bungled election."

Orengo was with

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and woman representatives Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay) and Esther Passaris (Nairobi).

TEARGAS ALSO IN KISUMU

A Reuters witness said police also used teargas to disperse protesters in Kisumu, a stronghold of NASA leader Raila Odinga.

On Tuesday, Raila announced his withdrawal from a repeat presidential vote scheduled for October 26, citing concerns over fairness.

A Reuters witness in Kisumu said the crowd had refused to disperse after being addressed by Governor Anyang' Nyong'o.

Nyong'o led the protests

alongside

Deputy Governor Mathews Owili, former DG Ruth Odinga and several MCAs.

They called for reforms at the electoral commission saying there will be no vote on October 26 if NASA's demands are not fully addressed.

Raila had insisted he will not go for the repeat polls on October 26 unless major reforms are done at the IEBC.

Among what the coalition wants is for CEO Ezra chiloba to be removed alongside senior staff believed to have bungled the August election.

NASA also wanted IEBC to cancel the tender awarded to Dubai based firm Al Ghurair for the printing of ballot papers. It wanted another firm hired.

They also wanted OT-Morpho, which they accuse of colluding with IEBC to hack systems, barred from providing services.

The principals were provoked to call for demonstrations when Jubilee party proposed amendments to election laws seeking to tame the Supreme Court and the commissions' chair.

Parliament passed the changes earlier today and Uhuru is expected to sign on Thursday or Friday.
