The Kenya National Union of Teachers yesterday demanded the appointment of a substantive CEO of the Kenya National Examination Council.

In a letter to Education CS Fred Matiang’i, Knut secretary general Wilson Sossion said the examining body cannot efficiently manage its programmes as the acting CEO Mercy Karogo “lacks executive legal authority to independently and professionally” execute the duties of the office.

“The failure on your part to ensure there is a substantive CEO is a big omission. The examining body cannot therefore deliver in the absence of a substantive CEO,” Sossion said.

He pointed out that it would be necessary for the CS to move with speed in appointing a substantive CEO before the start of national examinations to remove lingering doubts about the credibility of Knec.
