Seven British tourists were attacked and robbed inside Samburu National Reserve on Friday evening.

They were on a game drive with a Kenya driver when the incident took place.

The driver was hit with a rungu, Samburu East OCPD Samuel Muthamia said, adding the robbers stole items including Kenya shillings, passports and cameras.

"They left behind dollars. I think they didn't know the value or thought they were just pieces of paper," he told The Star by phone.

Muthamia said police were searching for the robbers and conducting patrols in the area.

He said no suspects had been arrested but that three passports and four international driving licences were recovered.

"We found them within the game reserve," he said.

The OCPD asked security personnel in the reserve to work closely with police to prevent such cases.

The facility's management could not be reached for comment.
